7 Steps For Setting and Achieving Goals in Life

Hey friends, let's drift on a different topic today.

Napoleon Hill says, “There is one quality which one must possess to win, and that is definiteness of purpose, the knowledge of what one wants and a burning desire to achieve it.”

Everybody wants to be successful, an achiever but very few get what they want in life. This is because
they choose to be the hardest worker in the room. They know that to live like a king, first, they have to work as a slave. They don’t just plan, they execute. Doesn’t matter how big or impossible your goal is. Give a shot. What will be the worst thing happen with us? We will fail but at least you won’t regret that we had a chance and we gave up. So always give a shot. Don’t care about the outcomes yet. "Grab the opportunity and learn in the middle how to do it. It is always better than losing the opportunity", says Richard Branson.

Today we will 7 steps for setting and achieving your goal in life. I am sure if you implement any single step then your productivity will surely improve. So, let’s get started.

Step 1: Decide exactly what do you want

This is the main step. Sit down with your mentor, parents, guardian, manger or anyone you think as the right person to guide you. Discuss with them about your life goals or career goals until you become 100% clear about your goal. You can find many people around you doing the less important task with high priority because they have no clear idea about what are they doing and for what purpose. This is because they hardly had anything discussed their goals.

Discuss with your mentor/ manager about your goals in career

Doesn’t matter how good driver you are or how powerful engine your car has. If you’re driving on a wrong track, you will never win.

So, friends make sure that you have a clear idea about your goals.

Step 2: Write it on paper

Well, most of you think that writing down our goals on paper doesn’t make it any easier to achieve. I advised this to one of my friends to write down her goals. She refused and trolled me saying that “It won’t make it easier to achieve. It won’t help. It is a useless and philosophical concept. Be a practical dude.”

Write down your goals on paper

But guys, when you write down your goals on paper, you create something that you can touch and feel and see. It is easier to understand if you touch it. Unwritten goals will lead to confusion and will create no positive stress. It is just a wish, that’s it.

So, doesn’t matter how low valve task it is. Just get that on paper and get it done.

Step 3: Set a timeline

If there is no time limit, no deadline to complete the task then it has no urgency and the task will be procrastinated. For getting the task done, use Pareto's 80/20 Pricnciple and  Parkinson’s Law. It states that any task gets its importance as per the time allowed to it to get it done. Time is wasted because there is so much time available. Set the limit to your important task so that it will create a positive stress on you and you will complete the task before the deadline.

A goal is a dream without a deadline

So, make sure that next time you will set a deadline for your important task which will help you to get you closer to your goals. A goal is a dream without a deadline.

Step 4: Make a list of things you have to do to achieve our goals

As you think of something which will help you to be more productive, add it and start acting on it. These small activities will keep you boosted and focused. Remember my friends, small things contribute largely to get perfection and perfection is not a small thing.

Always carry your To Do list with you

So, don’t ignore the small tasks. Integrate them. Those are the investments you can make for yourself.

Step 5: Plan

Benjamin Franklin said that, “If we fail to plan, we plan to fail”.  Planning is as important as all above steps. Without plan, even a wiser person will fail. List all your tasks in the order they need to be completed. Write down the plan and the priority on paper, if possible, go for flow chart. With written goal and well plan of action, you will be considerably productive and efficient than those people who carry their plan just in mind. Successful people plan their next day before going to bed because it will give them clear idea about what is supposed to be done on next day and on what priority. It will always save the time.

If plan A, plan B fails then also keep going. Still, we have many alphabets remained.

Step 6: Take actions

“The universe doesn’t give you what you ask for with your thoughts- it gives you what you demand with your action.” Do something, execute your plan, just don’t sit doing nothing or watching web series. An average plan vigorously executed is much better than a brilliant plan on which nothing is done. Action is everything. Successful people are not those who do not fail, they are those who fail more than anyone and simply refused to accept it as the conclusion. What they do. They keep pushing. If one action gives the wrong result. They do something different. Don’t change the destination just because the road is getting tougher and tougher. Change the road.

Action speaks louder than plans

Remember my friends, the universe is not going to conspire against you but it is not going to line up all the pins for you either. So, do execute your plan.

Step 7: Do something every single day which brings you closer to your goal

Make a daily schedule. You may decide to read certain pages everyday or you may engage specific time for exercise. Anything which makes you wiser, stronger or happier do that every day. Make sure that your productive habits become your lifestyle.

Keep going forward. Only initialing new thing is difficult but once you started it, don’t stop. Be determinant. Be disciplined.

Success has no short cuts. You have to grind yourself against the bad situations and the bad people. Initially, you will get hurt, you will get scratches but at the end, you will shine and those situations and people become useless…. just like the sand paper.

At last, I have a video here which is the most suitable for what we discussed here. You will find every single step in this video, discussing with higher authority,  execution of planning. Watch it and if you find this post useful then do share among your friends and comment your opinion.
